THE MOST INNOVATIVE AND UNIQUE SCHOOL IN MEXICO

MISSION AND ORIGIN STORY

Colegio Ikigai is a bilingual school, boutique Kinder and Primary school located in Bosques de Echegaray in the North of Mexico City.

The mission of the school is to help all our students discover the passion for learning in their life. The name Ikigai is taken from a world philosophy, originating from Japan. To find your Ikigai in life means to have found your life’s purpose. We aim to help all our students find their Ikigai in their life. We aim to do this by working with four strong vision statements for our students.

The first vision we have for our students is that we help them find their passion in life, through a focus on academic excellence.

The second vision for our students is that we help them develop the skills and competencies needed to survive and thrive in the 21st century. We do this by prioritizing the activities in school that develop, creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

The third vision we have for our students is that the school will help connect the classroom with the real world, through a focus on Phenomenon Based Learning and school trips.

The fourth vision we have for our students is that we will help them create strong values through our social program and the development of our unique student profile.

GENERAL DIRECTOR

John Kelly

Welcome to Colegio Ikigai.

My name is John Kelly and I am the General Director, founder and proud parent of Colegio Ikigai.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to our website and I invite you to find out more about the school. Colegio Ikigai was founded in December 2022, by Family Kelly-Ordorica and Family Huguenin.

The motivation for starting the school was to offer an innovative learning experience that could help our students to find their passion in their life and to grow into becoming adults with all the necessary skills, understanding, and knowledge to be able to survive and thrive in this ever-changing and unpredictable century.

We are delighted to present the Colegio Ikgai as one of the first schools in Mexico to adopt a Phenomenon Based Learning approach to education. As a family-based school, we actively encourage family participation. We want to work together to construct learning experiences for the students that are academically challenging and also offers each child, the ability to grow, to develop, to love learning, and ultimately find their Ikigai in the world.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the school and I invite you to find out more about Colegio Ikigai.

SCHOOL FOUNDER

Paola Ordorica

Welcome to Colegio Ikigai.

My name is Paola Ordorica and I am one of the founders of the school. I am focused on the general administrative running of the school and effectively communicating our mission and vision to the whole community.

I am also a proud parent of Colegio Ikigai and enjoying the experience of starting and running a world-class boutique Kinder and Primary School.

My experience and passion in life have always been communication and marketing and I am an ex-alumni of the Ibero, where I studied Communication.

I share the founders mission, to help all students unlock their full potential in life, by finding each and every student’s passion and motivation in life.

We are very proud to present Colegio Ikigai to Mexico and we know that it will be big success and send many happy children on their path to a successful future.

I invite you to know more about Colegio Ikigai.

SCHOOL GOVERNANCE

The governance of the school included three important committees and allows parents the chance to participate in the academic development of Colegio Ikigai. The academic development committee works to support the development of the school curriculum and actively involves parents in the community. The disciplinary committee, also with parental cooperation, is formed when a member of the community has acted against the community guidelines of the school. The school fundraising and social program committee comes together to help the school raise vital funds for our social projects and to help our students have the chance to work for the benefit of others.

SCHOOL INCLUSION PROGRAMME

Colegio Ikigai understands that each child is uniquely different but also understands that we all share one common cause and that is to discover the passion each child has for life and learning. To allow them to discover their own Ikigai, regardless of their own starting point in the journey. The school strongly believes in social inclusion and this must be represented in the admission process of the school. The theme of inclusion and provision of learning is enshrined in our school inclusion policy. We believe in forming adults who can include others in society, but adults who also share a values-orientated belief system.

We use the UK government’s SEAL program as the basis of our social and emotional learning. The majority of the learning is taught through ‘circle time’ which is present every day in school.

We were officially incorporated into the SEIEM on Tuesday 12th of July in a ceremony in Toluca.  Our CCP will be issued to us in August and our agreement numbers are AN2127 for Kinder and PPR946-22 for Primary.  For more information, you can contact SEIEM directly  for confirmation.  https://miportalfone.org/seiem-escuelas-particulares/

In Kinder, our goal is to have the majority of the day in English at 90%. In Primary each grade may differ slightly, but the goal is to have a 60% – English, 40% – Spanish split.

Yes, we have a uniform at Colegio Ikigai, which consists of a polo shirt, a hoodie, and pants for PE.

While the school site does have space for some sporting activities, we are looking at the possibility of taking some of our sports classes off-site.
